Jailer : How was the Thalaivar Alapparai ?

After a long gap, Superstar Rajinikanth's film was released today. There has been much gossip around this film since it was announced. It's after Beast for Nelson, after Annaatthe for Rajini. Beast didn't receive a positive response among critics, but it performed well at the box office, where Annaathe failed critically and didn't perform up to par in the BO. So there was a tremendous amount of hype and expectations for this combo.

From the beginning itself, Nelson surprised everyone by casting big shots from various industries such as Mohanlal, Shivaraj Kumar, Jackie Shroff, Sunil Varma, and Vinayakan. Nelson decently crafted roles for the biggies in Jailer. But Sunil's portions became a bit tiresome. When it comes to Rajini, obviously Jailer is a cakewalk for him. He easily scored in the mass elements, and it'll be a massive festival for his fans to celebrate. Man, literally, he is the textbook of MASSSSSSS!

The antagonist role was a huge disappointment in Nelson's previous outing. But he managed to correct his mistake this time by crafting the Antagonist (Vinayakan) role with weight. Dark/Black comedies are delicate aside from this, but after the post-interval film, it becomes tedious. Anirudh is the backbone of Nelson's film. Thereby, he saved this film in its major parts. Top-notch cinematography by Vijay Kartik Kannan.

It's a solid film and a great comeback after Petta. Nelson did better while comparing himself to Beast, but he had to concentrate more on writing. He staged mass elements very well; aside from that, there are some more flaws to point out.

To put it short, Jailer is an out-and-out Superstar film. Nelson convincingly pulled out the first half, but it tested our patience here and there in the second half. Anirudh, as usual, elevates the scenes with his music. Despite the flaws, Thalaivaru Alapara for sure! Cinema Scroll Ratings for Jailer is 3.5/5
